5. Don’t personalize the loss. It’s natural to blame yourself after a breakup, but try not to personalize the loss for too long. Much of the pain of a breakup comes from considering the loss to be your fault and regretting the choices you made while in the relationship. This process of self-blame can go on forever if you let it. It is much more helpful to see the end as the result of conflicting needs and incompatibilities for which no one is to blame. Each person in a relationship is trying to meet their own needs, and some couples can help meet each other’s needs while others cannot.
6. Prioritize basic self-care. Self-care means making sure your basic needs are met, even though you may feel upset and depressed about the breakup. You may not feel like eating, but do it anyway and try to make healthy choices in what you eat. Give yourself enough time to sleep, especially since it may be difficult for you
7. Get back to routine. Since going through a breakup can create a feeling of chaos in many areas of your life, staying in your routine will give you a better sense of stability or normalcy. While temporarily releasing some expectations can help, returning to a routine soon after the initial blow can help you calm down and regain a sense of control. This may include daily routines related to waking up and going to bed, eating, school- or work-related activities, exercise, and time spent with others, to name a few.

8. Don’t lose faith in people or relationships. Since you may be feeling very hurt after a breakup, it’s easy to assume that all men (or women) are bad or unreliable, but that’s simply not true. By holding on to this belief, you will be denying yourself all the opportunities for great relationships in the future. We can’t overgeneralize from our limited relationship history and assume it will never work. Keep walking in public places! The more people you meet, the more likely you are to find your best match.
