Bled Island

The first look at the Slovenian Lake Bled in the Alpine foothills reveals a magical picture: among a reservoir filled with clear turquoise water, a green, gondola-shaped island rises. The territory of less than a hectare contains the Church of St. Mary, medieval houses, an archaeological museum, a cafe and souvenir shops. And most importantly, the ancient Bled Castle and tower of the 12th century are, surprisingly, 50 meters high (usually they were half that height).

The island is perhaps the main tourist attraction in the country, a must-visit for couples intending to get married. It is believed that if the groom carries the bride in his arms up the 99 steps leading to the temple, the family life will be long and happy.
